Walter Chrysler

Walter Chrysler (1875 – 1940) was a railroad mechanic and worked in many railway companies. In 1911, he was invited to head the production of Buick Motor Company which was under General Motors. With William Durant retaking control of General Motors in 1916, Walter Chrysler offered to resign but was retained by Durant on a 3 year contract by paying an astronomical salary.

In 1919, he resigned Buick Motor Company and joined Willys-Overland Motors . Unable gain full control over the company, he quit in 1921.

In 1921, he bought Maxwell Motors and renamed it as Chrysler Corporation. He introduced the famous brands Plymouth , DeSoto and also bought Dodge. Chrysler went on to become the third largest auto manufacturer in the World.

Currently Chrysler has been merged with FIAT and named as F C A (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles)
